Lileth Productions is a New York and Los Angeles-based film production company that started when film publicist Renata Lorenc, currently residing in LA, and filmmaker David Karges, in New York, decided to team up and produce the cutting edge arthouse thriller "Crumble" which is now in pre-production and slated to be shot in early September 2009.

Has there ever been a period in your life when everything around you seemed like it was falling apart? This is the theme Renata wanted to explore when she wrote the short story “Crumble”. The narrative captures the gritty elements that surround a collapsing Manhattan marriage. Ready to transition into the film market as a director, Ms. Lorenc revisited the story she wrote four years ago and decided it was finally time to bring it to fruition. “From being a film publicist for over ten years, I've seen many promising projects not get picked up for distribution or even break even from a financial standpoint. These factors haven't deterred me because this is a passion project that I am approaching solely as an artist with a vision to create and not so much for huge financial gain.” Renata also wanted to make a statement about the empowerment of women and her disdain for the exploitation of their sexuality. The films that inspired “Crumble” include “Thelma and Louise”, “Eyes Wide Shut” and “Requiem for a Dream”.

The journey behind every independent filmmaking experience is always unique and what unanimously unites the artists is the struggle to get their vision executed on the big screen with limited funds. Renata decided to approach filmmaker David Karges with the project. Stated David “I get pitched many scripts to produce but selected Renata’s story because of its raw energy and her willingness to push boundaries”. While the production had an abundance of passion and enthusiasm the money was scarce. After the initial investors pulled out because of the economic downturn Renata and David set out to coordinate a fundraiser to acquire the capital needed to complete the film. And so the two worked tirelessly to produce a gala event that would not only promote and hype the film’s production but create a sheik and alluring atmosphere where industry professionals could network.

Mission accomplished. The beautiful people came out for the "Crumble" Red Carpet Film Fundraiser & Benefit on Friday August 7th, 2009. (Photos above.) The high profile event attracted TV/Film celebrities, models, producers, directors, music celebs, industry professionals and high society’s patrons of the arts. Among the attendees included Joe Franklin (Ghostbusters), Michelle Barry, celebrity make-up artist Jerry Lopez, William Demeo (The Sopranos, Analyze That), Pablo Escobar Jr., John Thomas (JT Talent & Casting) and Comedian Jessimae Peluso just to name a few. Also gracing the red carpet that evening was the lovely and talented Saskia Slaaf who signed on to play the leading role.

Saskia, who is no stranger to the silver screen, has been featured in over a dozen feature films including “The Rules of Attraction” and most recently on the popular Showtime series “Nurse Jackie”. She got her start in the entertainment industry directing music videos for MTV Europe and was quickly recruited by fashion industry icons Karl Lagerfeld and Steven Meisel which launched her modeling career. Appearing in over 100 high end fashion magazines including Vogue, Saskia was discovered on a modeling shoot by Hollywood screenwriter Roger Avery who attached  her to his latest film project on the spot. Since then, her transition to the film market has landed her numerous roles working with such directors as Spike Lee, Damon Dash, Marc Forster, Niki Caro, Justin Golding and Steve Buscemi. Commenting on her decision to play the damaged and repressed “Lorna” in Lileth Production’s “Crumble”, Saskia stated “I couldn’t put the script down with all of its clever storytelling and shocking twists and turns”.

Writer/Director Renata Lorenc and Producer David Karges are currently in negotiations with several celebrity actors to complete the casting process. They weren’t able to comment any further. Stated Renata “A contract isn’t a contract until the artist signs”. “Crumble” has guaranteed screenings in NY and LA and will be submitted for the Cannes Short Film Corner 2010. Further distribution deals are in the making.
